Sheri Bronson-- The Lost Lenore/ That Rare and Radiant Maiden
I know, I know, it's basically cliche to illustrate Edgar Allan Poe... Too bad, I grew up knowing his poem "The Raven" and love it too much. Anyway, there aren't many illustrations I know of featuring the dead woman in the poem, Lenore, referred to as "that rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore". So here she is, with reminiscent parts of a raven to show that her "angelic radiance" is inextricably linked with the overshadowing remorse the subject of the poem feels from her loss.
