sketch

This is the basic drawing on my board - the only thing missing are some details. Anyone have any suggestions on how I can improve this before I start inking? I'm thinking of doing a black gradient wash as a background and masking off the fox/other shapes.  I will probably have it darkest at the bottom to make the fox pop and fade it up a little towards the top.  Then I will add inked line work

  1. Also a question for those who have used masking fluid - does it take off everything it covers? Like, would it take off my pencil drawing or would it take off an ink drawing underneath it?

  2. It might lift a little of your pencil, but I don't think it will take off ink. The longer it stays on the paper, the harder it is to get off though, so as soon as you don't need it anymore, I get it it off. Make sure the paint is fully dry though. As for the composition, I think the space at the top is a little too much, I would compress and overlap the swirls a little to bring the fox tail more into that space. Always evaluate your positive and negative shapes. You'll see it more clearly after you do a value study.
