Sarah Bowthorpe

I've been trying to figure out digital painting with my last couple projects, and haven't been able to achieve exactly what I want with them (yet). Understandable, considering that I don't have much experience with digital painting (yet). So this week I decided to do a piece in a more familiar medium that I knew I could get more or less the result that I imagined in my head.

Overall, I'm happy with the piece and it turned out more or less how I wanted. I'm debating with the idea of adding texture, I think it could add interest, but at the same time I like the simplicity it has already and don't want to loose that. I'm also considering doing a series of animals like this.

  1. I like the simplicity of design very much. Especially the way the trees arch over. I feel that the mother's face could be a bit more accurate to a deer. It looks a little too close to a llama for my taste, but that is an easy adjustment if you find some good reference. I would also look at a bit lighter background green. When I squint, I start to lose the deer silhouette. Overall very nice though.
